When I’m planning a trip I find the best resources are friends recommendations and blogs, because ‘most’ of these don’t involve people trying to sell you anything!
Flights: Hobart return flights
Transport: Airport hire care
5 day Itinerary
Day 1- Fly to Hobart
We made the mistake of flying in the afternoon so we really only got the hire car, went to dinner and had an early night. We stayed in eco Hideaway Pods just outside of Hobart which were beautiful and different.
Day 2- Mt Wellington, East Coast, Wineglass Bay
This was a big day of adventuring! We started nice and early to drive up Mt Wellington for the views, drove along the east coast and stopped for views we liked before doing the ‘short’ walk up to the viewing platform at Wineglass Bay. To get more out of the Bay of Fires the next day we decided to go all the way up there to stay the night in Binalong Bay. If you’ve got more time, I would suggest taking more time to do the east coast.
Day 3- Bay of Fires- Launceston
This is the place everyone suggests and when it’s quiet and you can appreciate the views at the various spots, you can see why. We spent most of the morning exploring before driving to Launceston. For another unique experience, we stayed at River Vineyard Retreat at Tamar Ridge Winery just outside of Launceston. We walked to the Cellar Door and were 10 minutes from the city for dinner. The sunset though 😍
*disclaimer: this was not the original plan but family things meant I needed to leave 2 days early. For the planned itinerary, see the 7 day itinerary.*
Day 4- Bruny Island
A LONG drive, starting around 6am, we caught the ferry just south of Hobart (very cheap & easy). Think the most amazing coastal views, cheese & hospitality! We recommend staying on the island overnight to really enjoy your time- as long as you don’t need to be back in Hobart before 6:30 the next morning (first ferry is between 6-6:30). We spent the day at Bruny Island and then stayed in Hobart that night for early flights the next day.
Day 5- Hobart to home
7 day Itinerary
Day 4- Launceston to Cradle Mountain
After a cute breakfast in town, head to Cradle Mountain for a day of exploring the various trails and sites. When you’re done, relax in one the many cute Airbnb cottages or farm stays- most offering fire places in winter.
Day 5- Bruny Island
The longest drive of the trip, and I’d suggest you start early to beat most traffic and get the most out of your time in Bruny Island. See the suggests for Bruny Island in the 5 day itinerary.
Day 6-7- Hobart to home
Explore Hobart (maybe nearby Port Arthur or MoMA), have one last night away and fly home on day 7!
