Creative Collaborations is all about sharing with you all the inspiring and talented people I see kicking butt around the world through their chosen social media channels. Like the look or sound of these creatives? Give them a follow!
Let’s start with the basics, who are you? Where are you from?
Hi everyone, I’m Ashleigh Hitter. Im from the Uk, but currently travelling around Oz on a working holiday visa.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
When I told people I was quitting my (stable and well paid) job in social housing to travel Australia for a year people repeatedly said how brave I was and it wasn’t until I stood back and assessed myself I realised it was such a brave thing to do. I also like my tenacity, managing to pick myself up whenever things get thrown at me. Sometimes this happens straight away or sometimes it’s a long drawn out process, but every time it makes me a better person.
What’s your favourite viral social media challenge?
To me anything that involves an element of fundraising or awareness is the best sort of challenge. The thing that springs to mind is the ice bucket challenge which achieved both of the aforementioned things. On a side note, I’m a bit stubborn and don’t like to jump on hypes, so often stay away from emanating what other people are doing, although I love to draw inspiration from other bloggers, Instagrammers and other forms of media.
What is a goal you’ve set yourself recently?
Whilst I’m in Oz, I want to do some soul searching. I’m fully aware it sounds VERY cliche, but I want to spend some time on myself. Learning to love myself, becoming a better person and working out who I am and what I want to become. Apologies it that outpouring makes anyone feel nauseous.
What is the main focus of your social media?
Before I came to Oz my content was focussed on lifestyle and fashion, but now it’s all travel, travel, travel and I’m not complaining. I would love to incorporate some more fashion, but that’s pretty tough when you’ve only got 6 dresses in your backpack that you are just wearing on rotation!
Who or what inspires you the most?
Nature. I love it. I love walking and really taking in your surroundings, there is nothing quite like it.
Who is spreading a positive message on social media at the moment?
Sophie cliff is doing a 100 day challenge and I am loving seeing her content each day, she is so inspiring and her blog posts are wonderful too. I also have to mention Vix Meldrew, who is pretty much single handedly bigging up all the blogging community, rather than a threat. Vix shares the blogger secrets that every other successful blogger is keeping very much to themselves. She is nailing it.
What’s the best advice you’ve gotten recently?
You do you Simple but says it all really.
What’s one insecurity you have about yourself?
My weight….. as with the majority of the population I’ve had insecurities about my weight since a very young age. I’ve worked so hard on my body image issues recently and things are so much better than they used to be and I can’t wait for things to keep improving so I can hopefully pass that message onto others. We are all different and that’s what makes us wonderful.
What do you hope to achieve with your social media?
I want to inspire people. Inspire people to take amazing photos, to look at things in a different way, to eat amazing food, to wear whatever they want to wear and to travel the world.
Have you ever met anyone through your social media?
I met up with the amazing Michelle Gately who blogs at https://theunfinishedbookshelf.com whilst in Oz. My anxiety was through the roof about meeting someone I’d only spoken to online, but it felt so natural and we got on so well, I would encourage anybody to do it. At the end of the day if you get on so well online, why wouldn’t you get on in real life?
Where’s your next travel destination?
Ohhh that is a tricky one. I’m currently in Melbourne, but have no onward plans. The options at present are Sydney, Cairns or Bali. You’ll have to add me on social media to find out where I decide to go.
What is one of your travel accomplishments you’ve achieved recently?
Flying to Oz with no plan and just the first 5 nights booked in a hostel. I’ve always been pretty spontaneous, but this takes things to a new level and I am loving it. Since then we’ve travelled up the east coast, spent time in the Gold Coast and flown to Melbourne, all in 7 weeks.
What is one travel goal you are working towards?
To be able to see the world whilst working on a freelance basis to fund my travels… we can all dream can’t we?
What is your top travel hack?
When you arrive on your first day, find a bar, order 1 (or 12) cocktails, speak to bar person and ask for their recommendations. It’s always better to go on locals recommendations, because then you discover places that are often little gems, they also knows all the best deals. We did this when we went to New York and had the best time.
What is one thing you take with you on all of your travels?
A flight pack…. snuggly socks, eye mask, ear plugs, eye drops, mini face cream. It’s a godsend and I feel so glam pulling out my little bag with all my essentials, even if I am crammed on the middle seat of a Ryan air flight.
How do you self-care?
I’m bad at self care, but some things I try to do often include listening to a podcast, curling up with a book, taking a long relaxing bath, having a walk or slathering myself in cream.
